My Purity
In high school, I did a lot of things I wasn’t proud of doing. I went way too far with my boyfriends and did everything I could to make that fact obvious to my overly-moral parents. However, I never quite went all the way with a guy. The reason was my necklace. I know that it sounds weird, but my mother had given me a necklace when I turned 13. It was a small chain with a ring dangling from it. She told me that it was a piece of true love waits jewelry, and it showed off my purity to anyone who noticed it. At the time, I thought it was pretty cool, so I wore it. Then it became a habit, wearing it everyday without a thought. Well, in all of the times I wanted to go farther with my boyfriends, I would start to do so and then stop, feeling the weight of the necklace near my heart. And even though I wanted to, somehow I never took it off or threw it away. Now that I’m older, I can see that it was God’s protection and my mother’s prayers that kept me from completely destroying my purity, and all through a tiny little necklace.
