It Helps me Stop Problems Before They Occur
I am the database administrator for an SQL server. It is my job to make sure that the server is running smoothly and that there are no potential problems. Most of the time, the server makes this pretty easy. I adjusts itself automatically to accommodate different numbers of users and different amounts of RAM. However, I do occasionally have to do some SQL Server Performance Tuning. To do this, I use the performance monitor. When it picks up things such as bottlenecks, I fine tune the server so that there is no interruption in service. This helps me to stop problems before the occur, rather than hearing from my users after the fact.
